Atmospheres is a poetics of architecture and a window onto Peter Zumthors personal sources of inspiration. Peter Zumthor founded his own architectural practice in 1979 and has been guest professor at different universities all over the world. The Atmósferas talk was structured into concepts such as: The Magic of the Real, The Body of Architecture, The Consonance of Materials, The Sound of Space, The Temperature of Space, Things Around Me, Between Serenity and Seduction, Tension Between Interior and Exterior, Degrees of Intimacy, Shedding Light on Things, Architecture as Environment, Coherence and The Beautiful Shape, which in turn serve to structure the discourse of this book. His thoughts serve as a magnificent bridge connecting Zumthor’s own buildings and their relationship with the surroundings. It reflects on the capacity of buildings and their surroundings to offer people a good place in which to live their lives. Gustavo Gili publishing house features this talk in a book titled Peter Zumthor Atmósferas. In June 2003, the architect Peter Zumthor imparted a conference at the castle of Wendlinghausen, within the framework of the Festival of Literature and Music of Germany. ![]()
